- Wyoming Produce Water Initiative (312)
The Wyoming Produced Water Initiative (“WPWI”) is a coalition of organizations and individuals from the agriculture and oil and gas industries whose goal is to improve communications
between agricultural and oil and gas producers, and to promote an understanding of the ways in which groundwater produced in association with oil and gas operations (“produced water”) can provide a benefit to agriculture producers, wildlife, and the environment while minimizing potential adverse impacts. - Water Management: a key issue for natural gas producers (187)
- Water Management Toolbox (324)
The Water Management Toolbox delineates the most commonly used water management tools in the Powder River Basin. Note: CBNGA does not endorse any specific water management tools. The flexibility is what is important because each tool, or set of tools, is site-specific. - Technical Review and Analysis of Kuiper’s/NPRC Documents Related to the Management of CBNG Produced Water in the Powder River Basin (352)
Gas Produced Water Management Study
CDM, Inc. and Kevin C. Harvey, Inc. (collectively CDM) completed a detailed technical review of the Kuipers and Associates (Kuipers) CBNG water management reports commissioned by the Northern Plains Resource Council (NPRC). The reports incorrectly conclude that the exclusive use of injection and treatment are technically and economically feasible produced water management options in the Powder River Basin (PRB) of Montana and Wyoming. This CDM technical review focused on evaluation of several key issues related to management of CBNG produced water including: 1) injection/reinjection; 2) treatment; 3) beneficial use; and 4) CBNG economics. - Schafer Report (276)
The water produced by CBNG operations is suitable for nearly all beneficial uses. It is commonly used for domestic water supply and livestock use, and can be used for irrigation on suitable soils or with appropriate chemical amendments.
William M. Schafer, Ph. D., of Schafer Limited LLC in Bozeman, Montana has written a comprehensive paper on produced water from CBNG development. - Mananaged Irrigation Booklet (285)

- Wyoming Permits (316)
An array of regulations in Wyoming oversee the production of every phase of coalbed natural gas, with many state and federal agencies involved. The WOGCC regulates the placement of wells, Wyoming's Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) have their set of permits since water is produced, the BLM issues permits for drilling on federal land. - Wild Lands Whitepaper (176)
