Summertime – time to enjoy the warm air and pick up a good book. This summer is also time to start communicating with local government about the important activities going on. Get to know your county commissioners and those running for new seats. There are so many important issues going on this year – with the Ag Use Policy/Rule technical group (and public comment around the corner); the draft Environmental Assessment for Fortification Creek (supposed to be released May 3 but still not out), as well as multiple Resource Management Plans in Wyoming – two in particular in the Powder River Basin and Bighorn Basin. Local government needs community engagement in these issues for the most successful outcomes. Use your trade associations, CREDIBLE favorite organizations and/or conservation districts to help you sort through some of the details and understand the major issues – that is why they are there! A little bit of participation goes a long way and some of these issues have such enormous potential for vast changes, your attention is vital. (You can still enjoy the warm weather while you’re at it!)
