Natural gas is the cleanest of all the fossil fuels. Composed primarily of methane, the main products of the combustion of natural gas are carbon dioxide and water vapor, the same compounds we exhale when we breathe.

Buses represent a high-profile example of how natural gas can be successfully applied to vehicles of all types – urban mass transit, school and shuttle buses. Lower fuel costs compared to gasoline and diesel is part of the reason. The clean air benefits are even more important. Natural gas is often chosen as the most efficient and affordable pathway for fleets to meet environmental mandates. Because buses are usually fueled at a central location, infrastructure requirements are not a big issue.
